A wandering national center

While waiting for its new home to be built, NCARís staff occupied several locations, including a downtown office building and two floors in the University of Coloradoís Armory Building, located on University Avenue across from Macky Auditorium. At the time, the building's loft still contained weapons belonging to the Colorado National Guard. In 1962, some staff moved into new research quarters built by the university on 30th Street near Boulder Creek. Computer time was arranged on shared systems at the university and the National Bureau of Standards (which later became the National Institute of Standards and Technology). Staff finally gathered under one roof when the Mesa Lab opened in the fall of 1966.
